!!!!!! EXPANSION UPDATE !!!!!! (September 09')
Anola Community Club is that much closer to having the renovation to the center achieved!
Reeve Skrupski has contacted the Board of Directors of Anola Community Club and steps are being undertaken to discuss the Progression of the Proposed Renovation to the Community Club.
This is one of the most exciting achievements for all of Springfield. This is a huge step that our municipality is taking to show their solid commitment and support of recreation within our entire community. We have over 350 – 400 children that partake in extra curricular activities. Many may not think that recreation is very important for a rural community but without activities for children adults alike – there is no future.
Our towns and villages are more than just a collection of streets, businesses, schools, recreational centres and homes. They play a role in how healthy we are. Their physical and social environments have a major impact on the well-being of their residents and the success of their towns.
Tendering, contracts, renovation, rebuilding and construction are about to start – step up and lend a hand!!!!
______________________________________________________
Anola is growing and so are our needs. In order for Anola Community Club to achieve successful results with our children and those of the surrounding community we must provide sustainable infrastructure, achieve environmental equity and be able to offer our upcoming generations a future they can be proud of.
The facility will be wheelchair accessible; will provide child care in a well ventilated, naturally illuminated site, offer in-door sport fitness, banquet hall, commercial kitchen and bathrooms that will meet the needs of current and future usage.
We are building “green” and are currently investigating all avenues of environmental options.
WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE DOING?
The south hall portion of the facility will be demolished and a new portion will be added to the north hall. The transition will be friendly, encompassing and beneficial to the needs of the community.
WHAT WILL I BE A PART OF?
A NEW and IMPROVED multi-use facility benefiting everyone within the community. An investment in the economy as well as providing social programs, recreation, wellness, infrastructure sustainability and the environment.
A SPECIAL facility that will encompass child care opportunities with sports, dance; promoting fitness and health.
WHY ARE YOU BUILDING A NEW FACILITY WHEN THIS ONE IS JUST FINE?
The RM of Springfield initiated a task force in 2004 to determine the longevity of the buildings they own to assess their life expectancy and what cost would be involved if repairs were needed.
As with all public buildings & spaces, facility renewal is a part of the maintenance cycle to ensure a high level of safe, enjoyable space for citizens & visitors. Unfortunately, previous Council and Boards may not have seen the need to upkeep the facilities with regular maintenance thus jeopardizing the long-term life of these facilities.
The finding of the report and the results of the inspections done by engineers who performed thorough inspections showed that many of the Community Clubs were in bad shape and would have to either go through extreme and costly repair or be shut down, demolished and forever closed.
Hazelridge Community Club experienced this most extreme action and their facility was bulldozed down and burned one afternoon in October 2007.
Anola Community Club was given 5 years life expectancy on the south hall portion October 2005.
The report stated that extensive repairs would have to be performed or the facility would not be made accessible to the public. This means that October 2010 the facility will no longer be open to the public.
So you choose, do we shut down October 2010 and loose our facility or do we build.
It’s your choice.
Only you can make the decision.
What would Anola be without a Community Club?

There will be a minimal charge of $2 per person to use the sport sections of the hall.
An opportunity to purchase an annual Club Card that will give you access to; events, percentage off hall rentals, etc.

WHY SHOULD I CONTRIBUTE IF I, OR MY CHILDREN DO NOT USE THE FACILITY?
As with all public buildings & spaces, facility renewal is a part of the maintenance cycle to ensure a high level of safe, enjoyable space for citizens & visitors.
Well, maintained and varied public facilities add to the quality of life that attract people to the area & help support the local economy.
Recreation activity is an integral part of community living making a village stronger and friendlier.
This facility will attract many public partners such as the local school and clubs regularly using municipal recreation as a tool to “deliver a wide range of community services that would otherwise not be available in the immediate area.”
THE NEW FACILITY WILL:
Bring people into Anola for such events as: weddings, socials, meetings, etc. that don’t live in the area…in turn:
-
* Providing economic development to local business
-
* Increase local property value by attracting families and individuals to locate here.
-
* Provide the community of all ages and abilities with year round recreational activities
-
* Provide a site for community related events
We the Anola Community Club Expansion Committee are striving to work together to create recreational opportunities to strengthen the overall appeal of Anola to new and existing residents.

ANOLA, Manitoba – Three community-based projects in southeast Manitoba will benefit from more than $248,000 based on equal contributions from Canada’s New Government, the Province of Manitoba and local partners through the Canada-Manitoba Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF). The total investment in local infrastructure includes $148,000 for an addition to the Anola Community Club, $55,000 toward a new recycling depot for Dawson Trails Opportunities Unlimited Inc. in the RM of Ste-Anne and $45,150 for water line upgrades in Emerson.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Ron Lemieux, Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation.
“Canada’s New Government recognizes the importance of supporting rural Manitoba’s infrastructure needs,” said Minister Toews. “This joint investment of more than $248,000 will expand recreational opportunities in Anola, increase green initiatives for recycling in the RM of Ste-Anne, and improve water quality and service in the Emerson areas.”
“Our government is committed to improving and renewing local infrastructure across the province,” said Minister Lemieux. "We are pleased to be able to support these projects which will directly benefit the residents of these three communities and improve their quality of life”.
The Anola Community Club expansion involves the demolition of an older section of the building and construction of an addition with new office space, washrooms and a kitchen. The expansion will provide the community with added space for leisure and sporting events thus promoting healthy lifestyles.
Dawson Trails Opportunities Unlimited Inc started Blue Sky Recycling as a work experience program for their participants. The new facility will support a larger volume of recyclables, encouraging more residents to participate in recycling. The building will also greatly improve working conditions for the program’s employees. This registered charity located in the RM of Ste-Anne is dedicated to helping mentally challenged adults achieve independence and regular employment.
Funding for the Dennis Street water lines replacement project in Emerson will accommodate 14 homes and two fire hydrants, improving water and service reliability for residents, whose current cast iron water lines were installed in the 1950s.
The Canada-Manitoba Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) is investing a total of $120 million in communities across Manitoba. Of the funds, 80 per cent are earmarked for communities with a population under 250,000, including 198 municipalities and 50 unincorporated Northern Community Councils in rural and northern Manitoba. The remaining 20 per cent of funds are awarded to communities with populations over 250,000.
